What is Bowen Therapy
3) Gentle Light Touch
People are generally amazed as to how such a few gentle light moves can generate such a profound feeling of relaxation.
Such relaxation is extremely difficult to accurately describe and really has to be experienced to be fully appreciated
It appears that the body can heal better when it is in a relaxed state and Bowen provides the body with an opportunity to effectively de-stress.
Since the body appears to respond better to light touch, the degree of pressure associated with the Bowen moves is very small, although there is a degree of variation of pressure depending on the age, frailty and pain level that the client is experiencing. Put simply
Bowen can simply be considered as turning on the lights in your home - There is no point in pressing the switch harder than necessary.
Not only are the moves light , comparatively few of them are made during any treatment session. Too many moves appear counter productive. - as though the brain receives too many signals to evaluate. The therapists ability to correctly identify the number of procedures to apply, in any one session, is a key aspect to the success of the treatment. There is a saying in Bowen - "Less is More" i.e. less moves results in more success. And incidentally, the more vulnerable the client is, both physically or emotionally, the fewer number of moves are performed.
